For me, life is a multi-faceted journey, balancing the responsibilities of family with the satisfaction of construction. As a husband and father of five amazing children (aged 17 to under one), I strive to instill a strong work ethic and demonstrate the joy that can come from pursuing a passion. While my commitment to family is unwavering, building has always been a source of immense personal fulfillment. Regularly bringing my children onto job sites allows them to witness firsthand the dedication and collaboration that goes into crafting lasting structures. This hands-on experience fosters an understanding that work can be more than just a job; it can be a source of pride, purpose, and creative expression.

Growing up in Johnston County, I was immersed in the world of entrepreneurship from a young age. Witnessing my father successfully navigate multiple businesses, from a skating rink to a race track, instilled in me a strong work ethic and a keen understanding of responsibility. These experiences fostered a spirit of turning challenges into opportunities, a valuable trait that continues to guide my approach in the building industry today.

My first foray into the world of construction came at the age of 15, working for the esteemed builder, Greg Johnson. This experience not only provided me with a crucial introduction to the housing industry but also instilled the importance of structure and commitment within a professional setting. It was during this time that the seed of owning my own business was firmly planted.

Shortly after, I met Stacy Johnson of J&N Developers. Our initial gym friendship developed into a valuable mentorship that continues to inform my professional journey. Stacy's experience and insights remain a source of profound inspiration, as you will discover further on.

In 2013, I embarked on a venture that laid the groundwork for the professional I am today: I opened CrossFit 4042. While this community-driven gym focused on physical fitness, it proved to be an invaluable training ground for building success in a different arena. Through CrossFit, I cultivated essential skills that translate seamlessly to the construction industry. Firstly, I learned the power of fostering genuine connections. Building relationships, understanding diverse perspectives, and fostering collaborative spirit are crucial aspects of successful construction projects.

 

Secondly, I honed my ability to step outside my comfort zone. Tackling challenging workouts instilled the confidence and resilience needed to navigate the complexities of the construction industry. Most importantly, I embraced the core principle of unwavering integrity, a value that runs deep in all successful business ventures, including building homes.

CrossFit also introduced me to a valuable network of individuals within the residential and commercial construction sectors. The insights and perspectives gained through these relationships allowed me to understand the various facets of the industry from diverse angles.

​

Furthermore, this experience instilled in me the importance of discipline. Successfully managing a business while maintaining a demanding fitness routine honed my ability to prioritize tasks, delegate effectively, and remain focused on achieving goals. Prioritizing mental and physical health also became a cornerstone of my approach to work, as both are essential for making sound decisions and leading a fulfilling life.

In 2015, fueled by a desire to contribute directly to the local community and my entrepreneurial spirit, I completed my North Carolina residential contracting exam. This certification marked a turning point, opening the doors to collaborate with Stacy Johnson, a trusted mentor, at J&N Developers. Under Stacy's guidance, I gained firsthand experience in the world of home building. He exposed the contrasting approaches employed by large-scale builders, emphasizing the importance of quality workmanship and customer satisfaction. Perhaps most importantly, he instilled the crucial lesson of financial responsibility, specifically the value of leveraging personal resources rather than relying solely on bank loans. Additionally, I learned the critical nature of building strong relationships with subcontractors, understanding that every role in the construction process contributes significantly to a successful outcome.

 

Driven by a constant pursuit of new challenges, I embarked on a journey to contribute to the revitalization of aging cities in 2023. This relatively new venture stems from a deep appreciation for the vibrant spirit and strong sense of community found in small towns, where I grew up.

My vision is to breathe new life into these areas through the construction of single-family homes that are not only economical and efficient, but also foster a sense of community and belonging. This focus on affordability and efficiency aligns with the needs of many individuals and families seeking a foothold in revitalized areas.

However, my passion for construction extends beyond standardized offerings. I also relish the opportunity to collaborate with clients on custom homes, tailoring designs and features to their unique needs and aspirations. This versatility allows me to engage in the diverse aspects of construction, from creating practical solutions to fulfilling personalized dreams.

My passion extends beyond professional pursuits. When not at work, I cherish adventures with my family, often embarking on exciting RV trips with our diverse age group. This passion for exploration and adventure translates naturally into my approach to construction: constantly seeking innovative solutions and navigating challenges with a sense of resilience and resourcefulness.

Beyond the construction site, my personal pursuits often take me to the water. From seeking out exotic catches in the deep blue to embarking on extended family charters, my passion for maritime exploration allows me to engage in challenging endeavors while fostering cherished memories with loved ones.
